Ecu D'Or of Louis II, Count of Provence, Duke of Anjou and (disputed) King of Naples 1384-1417
Although Louis II was one of France's most powerful aristocrats at the height of the Hundred Year's War against England, Louis II had little to do with the conflict. Instead, he focused on his interests on the Italian peninsula, where he contested the throne of Naples with Ladislaus, and supported the anti-pope John XXIII against the official Pope Gregory XII and the Avignon anti-Pope Benedict XIII.
This particular coin features the Coat of Arms of the House of Valois-Anjou, to which Louis II belonged.
