The obverse (head), which is dated 2002, bears the fourth major different portrait of the Queen, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, and introduced in 1998.

Reverse
The reverse, by medallist and sculptor Avril Vaughan ARBS, PSNAD, bears a portrait of the Queen Mother which is poignantly enhanced by a delicate wreath.

Edge
In further tribute to the Queen Mother and, recalling the emotive ceremony of her funeral, the words
STRENGTH DIGNITY LAUGHTER
inspired by the Archbishop of Canterbury's address, appear on the edge. They are separated by the Queen Mother's crown, a visible symbol of royalty during the funeral service.

Royal Mint Error

Somebody at the Royal Mint's marketing department has mis-matched the obverse and reverse pairing of this coin as well as the Gold £5 Crown Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Proof Overlay. As far as we know the incorrect image appears only on their website. This pairing, which would constitute a rare "mule", does not exist on the actual coins.

Not only have the RM negligently used the wrong photos, but just look at the price and availability, £1745, and if anyone wanted to purchase one, they don't have any in stock, but have to go out and source one from a coin dealer. The Mint state up to 28 days for delivery. We carry these in stock, and as at 18th January 2016, our price was only £1080!
