1997 Turks and Caicos Golden Wedding 25 Crowns Gold Coin
This coin shows Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip at the start of their marriage in 1947. This coin celebrates a royal marriage that is a model of virtuous stability. The Royal couple first met as children. They were third cousins because Phillip's mother was a sister of Lord Louis Mountbatten and his farther was the deposed Prince Andrew of Greece. During the second world war they met again and their friendship developed into romance. Phillip served with distinctionin the Royal Navy during the war, and it was not until after peace was declared that the couple were able to announce their engagement. This was on Elizabeth's 21st birthday. The wedding took place at Westminster Abbey on 20th November 1947 and the popular event marked a break from from post war austerity.
