Copyright Theft
Perhaps we should be flattered by the number of people including dealers who continually infringe our IP (Intellectual Property) rights by using our copyright images, but we do not find it amusing, and will take legal action against any copyright thieves.

WorthPoint of Atlanta Georgia (worthpoint.com)
WorthPoint of Atlanta Georgia (worthpoint.com) are just one of the many coin dealers and websites worldwide who commit copyright theft by using our copyright images without our permission.

What's Wrong?
WorthPoint of Atlanta Georgia (worthpoint.com) have used our high quality 1915 Austrian Restrike Gold Franz Joseph 4 Ducat obverse photograph on their website.
We invest a great amount of time and energy into creating the best photographic coin images on the internet. It helps to promote our "brand", and many people recognise our photographs because of their high quality and other recognisable characteristics.
When other dealers or pseudo-experts use them to help create their own website, it dilutes our brand identity. It may also help to fool reader that the website they are looking at is one with high professional and aesthetic standards. Often the reality is that they are looking at some cheapo, hacked-out ad farm, written by ignorami.

The Ducat
Ducats were gold coins, and also units of account, formerly used in most European countries; including Holland, Russia, Austria, and Sweden. The value of a ducat was generally about 9s. 4d, that is nine shillings and fourpence.
T was also an Italian ducat silver coin , value about 3s. 6d.
According to The Oxford English Dictionary, the first Ducat was a silver coin issued in 1140 by Roger II of Sicily, as Duke of Apulia.
In 1284, the first gold ducat, also called a zecchino (from which we get the word sequin) d'oro, was struck at Venice under the doge John Dandolo. This coin, worth about 9s., bears on one side figures of St. Mark and the Doge, and on the other a figure of Christ with the legend 'Sit tibi Christe datus quem tu regis iste ducatus'; this, though it did not originate, may have contributed to spread the name, which was subsequently applied to the gold coins of various European countries.
Austrian 1915 Four Ducats
Ducats were issued by Austria in 1612, and probably earlier. The last regular issue of ducats was in 1914. All the 4 ducats dated 1915 are restrikes, of which t were 496,501 struck between 1920 and 1936. Four ducat coins dated 1915 are still being produced by the Austrian Mint as official restrikes.
Franz Joseph I was born in 1848, and died in 1916.
An Austrian Tradition
T is some tradition in Austria for issuing commemorative coins posthumously. After the death of Francis I in 1765, his widow, Maria Tsa, decreed on the 21st July 1766, that coins would be issued bearing the portrait of Francis I, and the date of his death. Alphabetical mintmarks were to be used to denote the actual year of issue, with A = 1766. The posthumous coins were issued erratically.
Also after the death of Maria Tsia in 1780, the very famous Maria Tsa Thaler continued to be issued bearing her portrait and the date 1780.

Reverse

High Carat Gold
Ducats were produced in high purity gold, 23 3/ 4 carats, making them among the highest purity gold coins ever issued for circulation.
Thickness
Because they have inherited their design and appearance from medieval gold coins, they are very thin compared with modern coins, at just 0.7 mms. thick.

What's Wrong?
It appears that WorthPoint trawls eBay and other online auction and sales sites, probably using some moronic software.
If this is the case, they have chosen one of the many eBay auctions which uses our hight quality copyright coin images.
The text of the listing also mainly quotes or misquotes one of the informative expert pages of our websites, but either the original eBay vendor who stole our images and text, or WorthPoint, have mangled it by missing letters from words. It looks as though somebody has performed a global "search and replace" of "her" to null.

Two Competitors Profit from Our Efforts
Clearly the original eBay thief profited from using our photograph, as it enabled him to sell his coin, with little effort. We put all the work and effort into producing top quality photographs to assist us to buy and sell coins, and to ensure that our web sites stand out as a quality brand. When detest it when dishonest cheapskates steal our photos to use in competition with us.
WorthPoint profit from the illicit use of our photograph and (mangled) text, by using it to create a pseudo-informative page about a highly specialised subject. They benefit from selling advertising space on "our" page, and also by selling subscriptions to their price information service.

Pay to View
We were unable to view the original eBay action, as this requires a subscription. Sure there is a "free trial", but this requires a credit card payment or guarantee, an application form, then presumably some lengthy process to cancel, deregister, and reclaim the first payment, none of which we intend to do.
If we had been easily able to do so, we would have named and shamed the original eBay thief on his own page.

Our Recommendations
If you want to read expert information on coins, use Google to find an expert informative site such as ours.
If you wish to know the price of coins such as the 1915 Austrian 4 Ducat restrike, you can also find our dynamic selling price on our page, or you could look on some auction site such as the dreaded eBay. Do be careful, though, there are many crooks on eBay. Whenever an eBay seller steals a copyright photo, there is always a greater risk that he or she does not actually own such a coin, the listing may be a complete scam, and often is.
Even if the vendor does own such a coin, he has misrepresented the condition of the coin, and his own expertise, by copying our photos and text.

Detective Work
We took our own advice and used Google to try and trace the cited eBay auction.
We did find one with precisely the same title, by an eBay seller "itsallforsale2009", but not for an auction which ended on 05/12/2009 (whatever that means, if English it would mean 5th of December, or in American the 12th of May, at least eBay spell their months to avoid confusion),
There was a feedback entry for "itsallforsale2009":

Great Ebayer!! Excellent coin!!! Jun-22-09 21:17
1915 Franc ios Gold coin 13.9 grams 24k yellow gold (#260419137877) US $410.00
Because this is clearly the 22nd of June 2009, it is quite likely to be for the listing cited by WorthPoint, in which case itsallforsale2009 is the crooked culprit. As we are unable to establish the fact beyond all reasonable doubt, we will refrain from naming and shaming him on his own page.

More Feedback - More Evidence
When we looked at itsallforsale2009's other feedback, we found some interesting negatives, which lead us to guess that he is a crook, or the usual eBay sort:
