eBay Cheats & Copyright Thieves
tetlowj in eBay Copyright Theft
tetlowj of Accrington, United Kingdom, stole our 1902 Edward VII Coronation Gold & Silver Proof Set photographs to use on eBay, and failed to tell buyers they was not the same coins he was selling. Totally dishonest.

eBay Copyright Thieves
Many eBay vendors use our coin photographs to sell inferior quality coins on eBay. These eBay members are dishonest and should be avoided.
We believe eBay profits from IP rights infringements (copyright theft), and does so knowingly, only removing infringing items reluctantly, if at all.

1902 Edward VII Coronation Gold Proof 13 Coin Set 22ct
1902 Matt Proof Collection
For the coronation of King Edward VII in 1902, the Royal Mint issued two different proof coin sets, the thirteen coin set featured on this page, and also a eleven coin set, similar to this one, For some reason, the Mint decided to issued this set with an all matt finish rather than the more normal highly polished proof finish. The complete set is presented in its original red leather box. For collectors of modern proof sets, please note that in those far off ancient days, the Mint were not in the habit of issuing any certificate with their proof sets, but then in those days there was far less marketing of coin sets, and the issue price would have been little more than the face value, which was £2.1.10, two pounds one shilling and ten pence, the equivalent of £2.09 in its modern decimal equivalent. With the leather box, the total cost may have been around £2.25 to £2.50 in total.
Please note this is a specimin (sic) set put together at mint

Question & Answer
Answered On 12th Mar 2010
Q: Hi,yetto hear back from you.The box does look a little distressed.I am interested to do a cash buy it now and would collect if needed. £2000 cash.
Regards. 12-Mar-10
A: Hi there. Sorry just got in from work. The coins are uncirculated. They were put together in a specimen box at the mint. They are obviously 108 years old but have always been kept in the box and not taken out. The silver coins have gone slightly dark but i am told that they can be cleaned but i dont want to touch them. They are very collectable i believe and i would prefer that they go via the auction. I already have a bid on the coins and i think it would be unfair to the bidder to take them off sale. But please bid if you want them as you may get them for the figure you quoted. Good luck. joel

What's Wrong?
We invest a great deal of time, effort, and cost into creating some of the best photographic coin images on the internet. We strongly object when lazy and dishonest people decide to use them without a by your leave or thanks, doing so in competition with us.
Copyright theft is dishonest. We recommend you avoid doing business with dishonest dealers.
This particular eBay seller not only stole six of our high quality images of our 1902 Edward VII Coronation Gold & Silver Proof Set, he used it to sell his own coin on eBay. He did not mention to potential buyers that the high quality photographs of mint condition coin set were not his own photographs.
It's possible he is ignorant of such fine points, or just plain ignorant.

It is always possible, even likely, that sellers who steal photographs do not own a similar coin, and have the intention to totally defraud potential buyers.
The vendor is not only cheating us by stealing our copyright images, he is fraudulently or ignorantly misleading and deceiving all potential buyers. Gaining pecuniary advantage by deception is the definition of fraud.

Price
The seller was asking a starting price of £1,850
If it sells for a sensible price, he would probably get more by selling to us when eBay's new 10% selling fees are taken into account, even ignoring PayPal fees.

Two Listings - Both Ended Early?
We noticed that one potential buyer had offered to pay £2,000 cash for the set (we would have snatched his hand off at that price), and Joel Tetlow's answer. It seems he had second thoughts about it, as he cancelled the first auction, relisted it at £2,100, cancelled the second auction, and stated the item was no longer available for sale, and presumably sold it privately, to one of the two or three interested parties, thereby also defrauding eBay of its selling fees, and possible PayPal commission.

eBay Guilty of Negligence or Complicity
We will be reporting this example of copyright abuse using our standard Statutory Declaration via the eBay VeRO programme, and wait to see if they chose to action or ignore our report. We look forward to taking legal action against eBay for their negligence and / or complicity if they fail to take down the offending material promptly.
