What's Wrong?
We invest a great deal of time, effort, and cost into creating some of the best photographic coin images on the internet. We strongly object when lazy and dishonest people decide to use them without a by your leave or thanks, doing so in competition with us.
Copyright theft is dishonest. We recommend you avoid doing business with dishonest dealers.
This particular eBay seller not only stole our image of the reverse of a 1974 Krugerrand, she used it to sell her own coin on eBay.
She did not bother to tell buyers it was not the same coin as she was hawking.
It's possible she is ignorant of such fine points, or just plain ignorant.

It is always possible, even likely, that sellers who steal photographs do not own a similar coin, and have the intention to totally defraud potential buyers.
The vendor is not only cheating us by stealing our copyright images, he is fraudulently or ignorantly misleading and deceiving all potential buyers. Gaining pecuniary advantage by deception is the definition of fraud.

Price
The seller was asking a starting price of £600 for her Krugerrand. and it was at £623.04 when we added this page.
She would probably have got more by selling to us when eBay's new 10% selling fees are taken into account, even ignoring PayPal fees, or spending it. although many eBay buyers are, rather stupidly, still paying too much for Krugerrands, we could and would provide them with a choice of more desirable one ounce gold bullion coins for less money.

E-Mail Response
Most eBay copyright thieves probably know they were in the wrong, and don't have the decency to send us an apology, however some do contact us with varying mixtures of (further) abuse, anger, apology, or other elements.
We receive the following e-mail from Sandragriff:

I am discussed by your email Me and MY son photo shopped the photo graph from photos that we took with our camera cause one coin looks like the other then how can any one accuse me of useing their photo this once again is discussting and i do hope that you have not stopped payment cause i sent the coin this morning.

Our Thoughts
When we saw the rather pathetic e-mail, we felt a tiny touch of sympathy, however this quickly dissipated when we read the claim that the photograph was one they had taken. This is a laughably stupid lie, and one that was not likely to fool us for as much as a millisecond, which curbed any sympathy we were feeling.
Her remarks about one coin looking like another also appear to be show a lack of understanding or intellect. It's still no excuse to steal our pictures.

eBay Guilty of Negligence or Complicity
We will be reporting this example of copyright abuse using our standard Statutory Declaration via the eBay VeRO programme, and wait to see if they chose to action or ignore our report. We look forward to taking legal action against eBay for their negligence and / or complicity if they fail to take down the offending material promptly.

We already have a page naming and shaming dealers using our images without permission. It's time we did the same for eBay, although if we include them all, this could be a very long page.
