Mexican 50 Peso Gold Coin
First minted in 1921 to honor the 100th Anniversary of Mexico's Independence. This was the first time Mexico minted a 1 ounce gold content coin in its history. Known by collectors and investors as "Centenario". Minted from 1921 to 1947, although close to 4 million more were issued between 1949 and 1972 which were all dated 1947. It is still a widely sough (sic) after coin for its beauty and gold content of 37.5 grams of pure gold.
The 50 peso gold coin depicts on the obverse "The Angel of Independence" which symbolizes a "Winged Victory" with a laurel wreath in her hand to represent Victory and broken chains in her left which represent Freedom. The two legendary volcanoes Popocatepetl & Iztaccihautl rise on the background. On the botoom (sic) left of the obverse the year of Mexico's Independence is shown 1821 and on the right the year the coin was minted. On the reverse of the coin it depicts the national coat of arms which is a Mexican golden eagle devouring a snake while perched atop of a cactus and the words "ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS" are shown across above the eagle.
