eBay Cheats & Copyright Thieves

manchestercollectables in eBay Copyright Theft
manchestercollectables of Manchester, Greater Manchester, United Kingdom, stole our 1981 Gold Proof Five Pounds Coin Photograph to sell her own coin on eBay, without our permission, and failed to mention the coin in the photograph was not the one she owned, if any. Totally dishonest.
Image theft is endemic on eBay, and most sellers appear not to care whether their buyers are deceived.

High eBay Feedback is No Guarantee of Integrity or Honesty
When we wrote this page, this eBay member's feedback was 229, with 100% positive, according to eBay.

eBay Copyright Thieves
Many eBay vendors use our coin photographs to sell inferior quality coins on eBay. These eBay members are dishonest and should be avoided.
We believe eBay profits from IP rights infringements (copyright theft), and does so knowingly, only removing infringing items reluctantly, if at all.

What's Wrong?
We invest a great deal of time, effort, and cost into creating some of the best photographic coin and gold coin images on the internet. We strongly object when lazy and dishonest people decide to use them without a by your leave or thanks, doing so in competition with us.
Copyright theft is dishonest. We recommend you avoid doing business with dishonest dealers.
It is always possible, even likely, that sellers who steal photographs do not own a similar coin, and have the intention to totally defraud potential buyers.
The vendor is not only cheating us by stealing our copyright images, he is fraudulently or ignorantly misleading and deceiving all potential buyers. Gaining pecuniary advantage by deception is the definition of fraud.
The payment terms manchestercollectables states in the item listing contravene eBay's listing policies, so she is trying to cheat eBay also.
Will he cheat buyers, too?

Price
The seller was asking a starting price of £99.00 for this item.
Even without after eBay's greedy 10% selling fees, and possible PayPal charges, the seller would almost certainly have been much better off selling the coins to us, instead of stealing our photographs.
The 1981 Gold Proof Five Pound sold for £825.25 and the 1989 Gold Proof Five Pound sold for £975.89. We would currently (at the time of writing) pay more for each of these coins so the seller would certainly have been better off selling them to us.
His starting prices were rather stupid at £99 each. This cost more to list than a £0.99 item, and is pointless for any item which is worth nearer £1,000 than £100, as is it just giving extra money to eBay for nothing (It's O.K. if you are in dire straits!).

One Day Sales - Alert
The seller used 1-day sales for all three of these items. In our opinion, these are often used for "hot" items, and not necessarily in the best sense of the word.

Twelve (12) Minute Listing - Buy it Now at £825
The thired item manchestercollectables listed was another 1981 gold proof five pounds, for which he used a B.I.N. (Buy it Now) price of £825. Either this ebayer is totally stupid, of the coins are stolen property, possibly both. This item sold within 12 minutes of being listed, so we almost missed it (one good reason to use a 1 day sale, and a bit like having a fast getaway car if you are going to commit a robbery). If he had any intelligenc at all, he could have telephoned us, or numerous other dealers, got a higher buying price, and even delivered the coins to us, as Manchester is only one hour away. Of course we would have insisted on I.D., which is about the only valid reason we can think of for not selling to us.

eBay Guilty of Negligence or Complicity
We will be reporting this example of copyright abuse using our standard Statutory Declaration via the eBay VeRO programme, and wait to see if they chose to action or ignore our report. We look forward to taking legal action against eBay for their negligence and / or complicity if they fail to take down the offending material promptly.

Copyright Thieves on eBay
We already have a page naming and shaming dealers using our images without permission. It's time we did the same for eBay, although if we include them all, this could be a very long page.
