"Simply bring us your unwanted gold jewellery even if it's broken or has no hallmark and we will buy it from you!

Impressive or What?
When we read this, we were quite impressed that this company had a 50 strong chain of shops, and wondered why we had never heard of them before.
One of our staff said she had been in the Hounds Hill Shopping Centre recently and nearly fallen over laughing. There was an Indian or other Asian man sitting at a fold-up booth in one of the corridors.
She was amazed and surprised that anybody would want to hand over or receive cash in such a public place because of the security risk.

How Much?
Like many such adverts, which seem to be appearing in rashes and ever growing numbers, this buyer fails to indicate any guideline buying prices. We strongly suspect that their buying prices will be low in comparison to the actual intrinsic value of the gold they buy. A local dealer, who sells us his scrap told us recently that he had seen a box of gold jewellery which a fellow dealer (not Guardian Jewellery) had recently bought for £100 from an old couple, which was worth over £1,000 for its gold content alone.
Perhaps we are being slightly harsh on this advertiser, but for most advert like this that we see, the buyers only pay a low price, obviously that's why they are so keen to operate so many "units".

Cash Paid?
It's probably a sad reflection on the times and the state of our nation, that whenever we see people advertising to pay cash, we suspect the worst!

Actual Prices
One of our staff asked at one of the 50 units, and was told they were paying £3 per gram for hallmarked 9 carat gold, and £2.50 for unhallmarked. These prices are only about half the price we pay, and yet the booth had a queue of potential sellers (=suckers).

Shop around, ask how much per gram or ounce a dealer is paying, find out what your item weighs, and don't sell it too cheap.
