Copyright Theft
Perhaps we should be flattered by the number of people including dealers who continually infringe our IP (Intellectual Property) rights by using our copyright images, but we do not find it amusing, and will take legal action against any copyright thieves.

Gold Blog, gold and silver blog (4-gold.com)
Gold Blog, gold and silver blog (4-gold.com) are just one of the many coin dealers and websites worldwide who commit copyright theft by using our copyright images without our permission.

Gold Proof Coins
On their "Gold Proof Coins" page, which we reproduce here, they are clearly using our Gold Proof Ten Pence image which they have obviously taken from the 2008 British Gold 'Emblems of Britain' Proof Coin Collection page off our website.

Gold Proof Coins
Gold Proof coins and sets are specially minted for gold coin investors and collectors or used as a gift for special occasions. These gold coins are not for circulation purposes or bulk trade as seen in relation to gold bullion. The blanks for gold proof coins are specially made so as to mint proofs that are highly polished before they are struck. Even the dies are specially prepared and polished thoroughly before the striking process begins. Gold proof coins are produced in very limited amounts so they are very rare.
Types and specification of gold proof
There are different types of proof coins. Some are produced with a matt finish. Some have a reverse proof finish. The background is matt and the raised design is polished.. But most proof coins, and the ones that the majority of collectors look for, is the traditional matt design on a highly polished background.
With proof coins there is a stringent quality control with each coin being inspected for flaws. If one flaw or blemish is found the entire batch is usually checked and rechecked.
Proof coins are usually packed into capsules and a high quality display packaging along with information about the coins. Gold coins are soft and proofs, especially, should not be removed from the packaging which has been designed to protect the coin from nicks, scratches and any other blemish.
Proof gold coins are produced in limited amounts and runs, so are more rare than the uncirculated. This can only improve their value as time marches on. In times of economic need they are an excellent source of funds as they can always be sold. Fineness of gold coins
Coins are usually made of an alloys as other metals are mixed into the coin to make it more durable. Fineness is the actual gold content in a coin or bar and expressed in grams or troy ounces.
Karat weight is a unit of fineness for gold equal to 1/24 part of pure gold in an alloy. For example, pure gold which is 1000 fine. Below is a karat weight to fineness conversion chart.
Correlation between karats and fineness
* 24 karats = 1000 fine
* 23 karats = 958.3 fine
* 22 karats = 916.6 fine
* 21 karats = 875.0 fine
* 20 karats = 833.3 fine
* 18 karats = 750.0 fine
* 16 karats = 666.7 fine
* 14 karats = 583.3 fine
* 10 karats = 416.6 fine
The fineness is often converted to a percent, as well. If a gold coin has a fineness of .900, the decimal point is moved two places to the right and that number is expressed as a percent – that is 90.0% pure gold. If a gold coin has a fineness of .850, then the gold coin is 85.0% pure, etc.. But fineness is not the only way to value a coin.
Tips on how to buy gold coins:
1) Understand the dynamics of the gold price
The gold spot price and the gold content (weight per ounce) of a coin contribute to its actual selling price. Gold coin dealers put a premium (mark up price) on gold coins to cover the production and shipping expenses.
Gold coin prices go up during a period of economic and political instability. This is because numismatic experts and gold coin investors alike call gold as the mirror of economic and political environment.
Search the up-to-date price of gold in the internet. Gold prices are volatile and they change from time to time. They are stated as dollars per ounce. Coin books can help, too.
2) Choose what gold coins to buy
Decide whether to get the collector gold coins or gold bullion coins.
Not all gold coins are created equal – there is a big difference among these two kinds of gold coins.
3) Identifying a Gold Proof Set
When searching for specialty gold coins for your collection, knowing a mint set from a proof set can save you from making a costly mistake. Proof sets contain coins that were specially manufactured as show pieces. Although the U.S. mint manufactured several gold pieces for circulation, most notably the Sacajawea gold dollar, a set of gold coins is more likely to be an authentic proof set than a mint set. The U.S. Mint does stipulate, however, that it does not, nor has it ever, produced coins that are merely gold plated.
4) Gold Coin Set Collections
Collectors should always remember that the value of any gold coin set hinges on a variety of factors such as desirability, rarity and the current market value of gold. Silver proof sets are far more common than their gold counterparts and much easier for beginners to start collecting successfully. You also have the option to collect unpackaged gold coins, polish them, and display them on your own. Whether you opt for a standard gold set, a silver proof set or a gold proof set, study the prices and the coins in order to make a smart purchase.
