eBay Cheats & Copyright Thieves

andy9torres in eBay Copyright Theft
andy9torres of Glasgow, East Renfrewshire, United Kingdom, stole our 1995 Gold Proof Dove of Peace Two Pound Reverse Photograph to use on eBay, without permission to try sell his own coin. Totally dishonest.

He failed to state or warn potential buyers that the superb condition gold proof coin in our high quality photograph was not the coin you would receive. This is deception.
Image theft is endemic on eBay, and most sellers appear not to care whether their buyers are deceived.

High eBay Feedback is No Guarantee of Integrity or Honesty

eBay Copyright Thieves
Many eBay vendors use our coin photographs to sell inferior quality coins on eBay. These eBay members are dishonest and should be avoided.
We believe eBay profits from IP rights infringements (copyright theft), and does so knowingly, only removing infringing items reluctantly, if at all.

1995 WWII 50th Anniversary Gold Two Pound Dove Of Peace
Brief Description: This is a great deal for the £2 coin commemorating the 50th anniversary of the WWII Gold. It is in great condition and has been well looked after. This is not the real picture to (sic) hard to get a proper shot of it. And can I remind THERE IS NO PROOF COMING WITH THIS COIN.
Thanks, happy bidding.

What's Wrong?
We invest a great deal of time, effort, and cost into creating some of the best photographic coin and gold bar images on the internet. We strongly object when lazy and dishonest people decide to use them without a by your leave or thanks, doing so in competition with us.
Copyright theft is dishonest. We recommend you avoid doing business with dishonest dealers.
It is always possible, even likely, that sellers who steal photographs do not own a similar coin, and have the intention to totally defraud potential buyers.
The vendor is not only cheating us by stealing our copyright images, he is fraudulently or ignorantly misleading and deceiving all potential buyers. Gaining pecuniary advantage by deception is the definition of fraud.

English, Scottish or Chinese?
We couldn't understand his description. It didn't make sense in English, Scottish or Chinese! The coin is apparently 'to hard to get a proper shot of' and 'THERE IS NO PROOF COMING WITH THIS COIN'. Does this mean the coin is not a proof? Or that the coin does not come with a certificate of authenticity? This is presumably his get-out-clause for when he gets a complaint from the poor mug that might buy this coin.

Price
The seller was asking a starting price of £200 with a highly optimistic Buy It Now price of £600 for his item.
Whatever the item "sold" for, after eBay's greedy 10% selling fees, and possible PayPal charges, the crook may have been much better off selling the coins to us, instead of stealing our photographs.

Idiot Seller?
We get people phoning us every week asking what we will pay for a gold £2 coin, usually dated between 1986 and 1996. Having at first taken the enquiries at face value, excuse the pun, the owners would then arrive or post their "gold" coin to us, only to find out it was a brass one. Having experienced this seversl times, we now ask them does it have a box and certificate with it. If not, we ask how they know it is gold. We also try and ask these questions in such a manner as to avoid offending any genuine knowledgeable owners with an actual gold proof coin to sell. The owners often answer that it is the right colour, or it is yellow. We then suggest politely that it is likely to be a nickel brass circulation version. Even then, some owners do not believe us, probably because they do not want to believe us, because we are telling them what they do not want to believe. Anybody who knows anything at all about propaganda knows it is much more effective when trying to convince the otter party that something they want to believe, is true.

Mug Punter?
We were astounded to note that the item had apparently sold at the £600 Buy It Now price. We wondered how anybodfy could be so stupid as to buy this item, with such a confusing and nonsensical description on eBay, bearing in mind the seller stated the photo was not of the actual coin.
Even if it were a real genuine gold one, there is no certainty that it is perfect, and there is no mention of a box or certificate. We reckons it smells of brass, and baloney, even from a distance.
As its happens, we have the gold proof version of the coin for sale on this site, with an "active" price (changes with gold bullion price), for £610. For this price, naturally we guarantee the coin is perfect, genuine, as described, and complete with the original box and certificate of authenticity.
The "buyer" also had a feedback of zero!

eBay Guilty of Negligence or Complicity
We will be reporting this example of copyright abuse using our standard Statutory Declaration via the eBay VeRO programme, and wait to see if they chose to action or ignore our report. We look forward to taking legal action against eBay for their negligence and / or complicity if they fail to take down the offending material promptly.

We already have a page naming and shaming dealers using our images without permission. It's time we did the same for eBay, although if we include them all, this could be a very long page.
