2015 Two Pound Coin - The Royal Navy First World War
The Royal Mint have produced a £2 coin, honouring the Royal Navy in the First World War. This is the third £2 coin released in 2015, the others being Definitive Britannia £2 and the 800th Anniversary of the Magna Carta £2.
The Royal Navy
In the years preceding World War I, Britain started to transform its naval technology, building a fleet to rival even the most powerful of enemies.
The battleship is often regarded as the most iconic and powerful of the fleet, helping to protect Britain's supply routes during the war.
Royal Mint Prices
We have always thought the gold proof two pounds are too expensive for us to purchase them direct from The Royal Mint. We pride ourselves on being able to sell coins at very reasonable and competitive prices. For this reason we only purchase these coins from the secondary market in order to give reasonable prices on collectable coins to our customers.
Obverse
The obverse shows the fourth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Ian Rank Broadley. This has been used on all British coins from 1998.
The legend (inscription) reads:
ELIZABETH II D G REG FID DEF
TWO POUNDS
Reverse
The reverse design features the mighty battleship. According to the Royal Mint, it was chosen as it "captures the strength of a force whose contribution to victory in the First World War deserves to be remembered." It was designed by military artist, David Rowlands.
The legend (inscription) reads:
THE FIRST WORLD WAR 1914 - 1918
2015
