Because different world mints vary considerably in their timing and methods of releasing information, and communication, some of the links from this page may be in development until sometime in 2012.
2012 - A Special Year
2012 will be an important year for the Royal Mint. Not only will it be completing its 3 year cycle of 2012 London Olympic coins, but 2012 also marks the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, 60 years of her reign. The last time we had a diamond jubilee was in 1897 for Queen Victoria.
To celebrate the Diamond Jubilee, a commemorative Crown has been released, and the sovereign, half sovereign, five pound and two pound have a unique design for one year only.
2012 Pricing Information
Because of the significant increases in gold bullion prices during recent years, the prices of most newly released 2012 gold coins will be higher than those of 2011.
Some collectors and investors will be unhappy about having to pay more for their new coins, but a more practical approach may be to buy older issues which, in most cases, are still at or below their original issue prices. In many cases these probably represent an unrepeatable buying opportunity.
2012 Diamond Jubilee Gold Coins
We correctly predicted a 2012 Diamond Jubilee Crown and also a new design for the Sovereign. We will also be stocking Diamond Jubilee coins from around the world and we have commissioned our own Diamond Jubilee Medallion.
UK Issues
2012 Sovereigns
A new St. George and the Dragon design to commemorate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, the proof version has sold out at the Mint.
2012 Half Sovereigns
The same design as the sovereign, available in both the proof and uncirculated.
2012 Quarter Sovereigns
The same design as the sovereign, the Royal Mint have refused to sell the uncirculated version to the trade this year so we only have the proof.
5 Coin Gold Sovereign Proof Set
All five coins feature the unique Diamond Jubilee reverse.
3 Coin Gold Sovereign Proof Set.
We do not expect to stock either of the three coin sets until they come on to the secondary market.
2012 Crowns
With a face value of £5 (five pounds), these have been issued in base metal, silver proof, and gold proof versions.
There are three different commemorative crowns issued in 2012.
2012 Diamond Jubilee Crown
Issued to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee, celebrating sixty years on the throne. Featuring two new portraits of the Queen by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS.
2012 London Olympics Crown
The official Olympic Crown, issued in cupro-nickel, silver and gold, all representing good value compared to the original issue price.
2012 London Paralympics Crown
The official Paralympic Crown, issued in cupro-nickel, silver and gold, all representing good value compared to the original issue price.
Charles Dickens £2 Coins
To commemorate the bicentenary of the birth of Charles Dickens
2012 Gold Bullion (Uncirculated) Britannias.
The 2012 Britannia is reverting back to the classic standing Britannia design by Philip Nathan.
Britannia Proof Sets
Of all 4 weights. This year's Britannias will have another one-off design. Usually released about August.
2012 Proof Quarter Ounce Britannias.
A good alternative to the proof sovereign. Usually released about August.
2012 Proof Tenth Ounce Britannias.
Lower priced than the proof half sovereign. Usually released about August.
World Issues
Australia
We have 2012 Australian Gold Nuggets and 2012 Year of the Dragon Gold Coins in stock now for immediate delivery. As we are now prime distributors for the Perth Mint in Australia we receive our stock of the next years' issues in the Autumn of the previous year. The Year of the Dragon is the most popular of the Chinese Lunar Calendar series and has already reached its issue limit, the 1 ounce silver coin sold out within weeks of going on sale. We will also have the Australian Diamond Jubilee Quarter Ounce coin in stock soon.
