2010 Centenary of Girl Guiding Gold Proof Fifty Pence
In 2010 the United Kingdom Royal Mint issued fifty pence coins to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Girl Guiding.

The Girl Guide movement was founded by Robert Baden-Powell in 1910 as an accompaniment to the Boy Scout movement founded three years earlier in 1907. Led by Robert's sister, Agnes Baden-Powell, It was organised along similar lines to its male counterpart, promoting physical fitness, outdoor activities and good citizenship, but also with more of an emphasis on "feminine skills" such as cookery and hostessing in the earlier years.

Today, as it celebrates its centenary, the Girl Guide movement is active in 145 countries throughout the world with over 10 million members.

According to the Royal Mint:

Designers Jonathan Evans and Donna Hainan of design agency Navy Blue created a reverse design worthy of such an important centenary celebration. Their simple yet elegant design features six 'trefoil' patterns, each representing a stage of the organisation from the Rainbow Promise Badge to the Trefoil Guild Promise Badge, surrounding the central Girlguiding UK logo. The Trefoil has been used from the very foundation of both the Guiding and Scouting movements: the three leaves signify the three-fold Promise. The combined Trefoils symbolise the journey every Girl Guide undertakes and also portray the strength and diversity of the organisation, while their arrangement and interlinked form give a sense of protection, trust and unity.

Obverse - Fourth Portrait
All British 2010 coins carry the fourth portrait obverse design by Ian Rank-Broadley.
