Canadian Commemorative $100 Proofs

2001 Canadian Gold Proof $100 Library of Parliament Commemorative Coin
In 2001 Canada issued gold one hundred dollar commemorative coins for the 125th anniversary of the Library of Parliament completed in 1876.
According to the certificate which accompanies this coin:

The Library of Parliament
Celebrating 125 years of service to the nation.

With a commanding presence on the shores of the Ottawa River, it is difficult to imagine that the Library of Parliament was once a transient collection of books travelling between Canada's early political centers. This was precisely the case until Queen Victoria selected Ottawa as Canada's capital and prompted the establishement of a permanent library.
Cosntruction began in December 1859 and 17 years passed before the library was completed in 1876, opening with a grand ball on February 28th of that year.
From its conception, the library incorporated the very best that architecture had to offer. Inspiration was found in London, Paris, and the innovative design was immensely popular. Its elaborate doors and roof proved their worth when fire threatened the library in 1916 and 1952.
Despite the ravages of history and time , many of the library's original features remain, evoking the grandeur of another age for everyone who visits there. One can almost hear the voices from the past declare that it is "...truly magnificent (where) only a Gothic building could be adopted to a site at once so picturesque and grand."
When we have these available, they are always at reasonable and competitive prices.
