1995 Turks and Caicos VE Day 25 Crown Gold Coin
This coin commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Yalta Conference held in Febuary, 1945. This was one of the most important meetings of key Allied leaders during World War II, the conference was attended by President Franklin D Roosevelt of the United States, Prime Minister Winston Churchill of Great Britain and Premier Joseph Stalin of the Soviet Union. In the famous Black Sea resort, they broached their plans for a post-war world which included accepting the structure of a world peacekeeping organisation. this was to become the United Nations. It was also agreed to re-establish order in Europe: to divide Germany into four zonesgoverned by Great Britain, the united States, the Soviet Union and France ; to force Germany to give the the Soviet Union equipment to make up for their losses: and to support the Soviet-Backed government in Poland. After the war there were criticism of the treatment of Eastern Europe, but most modern scholars believe that the conference produced a traditional and balanced settlement. This exquisit coin, with dazzling proof finish, commemorates a high point of Allied unity and the Yalta Declaration.
