Will_Ship_World_Wide in eBay Copyright Theft
Many eBay sellers, including dealers steal our copyright images, we suspect some of them may also be fraudsters. Does eBay care?

High eBay Feedback is No Guarantee of Integrity or Honesty
When we wrote this page, this eBay member's feedback was 24; with 100% positive according to eBay.

PowerSellers
According to eBay, PowerSellers are the pillars of the eBay community, but time and time again, we find PowerSellers stealing our images. It is so common, and eBay clearly know about it, that we believe eBay act unethically in permitting its members to steal images so easily, without sufficient checks, warnings, or education. This is as dishonest of eBay as it it of their members to steal copyright images in the first place.

Sample Listing 1:

(Special Edition 2007 Maple Leaf 99999 Pure Gold 1oz)

Special Edition 2007 Royal Canadian Maple Leaf 1 Troy ounce 99.999% Pure Gold Coin The Royal Canadian Mint has released a uniquely designed 2008 edition of the .99999 pure (that's five 9s!) one-ounce gold Canadian Maple Leaf. This gold coin represents a new standard in investment products and is the only .99999 pure gold bullion coin currently produced by a government mint. Highest Purity Gold in the World The gold Maple Leaf series of bullion coins was first introduced in September 1979, as a one ounce investment coin. The gold Maple Leaf coin was .999 pure until 1982, when its purity was raised to .9999, setting a new benchmark for gold bullion coins. The Royal Canadian Mint has maintained its tradition of leadership in the gold bullion industry by raising the bar once more, to .99999. This gorgeous coin series won't replace the Mint's standard .9999 Gold Maple Leaf coins, but is an exclusive special edition produced to show off the Royal Canadian Mint's engineering excellence in coin minting. Without a doubt, these 99.999% pure gold Maple Leaf coins continue to set new standards in minting history. Certificate of Authenticity The Royal Canadian mint has provided a certificate of authenticity acompanying (sic) this item. They officially attest to the 99999 purity, with only 10 parts per million of any trace impurity. Sealed Container This item has been sealed in a collectable display card by the Royal Canadian Mint. Collectable Symbol of Canada The national symbol of Canada, a unique maple leaf design adorns the reverse of this beautiful coin while the obverse bears a sculpture of Queen Elizabeth II. This speial (sic) edition features a new, elegant maple leaf design gracing the reverse and a 12 sided surface design on both sides. The reverse design changes with each annual issue, making the 2008 issue unique from all other Maple Leaf coins

Very limited availablity (sic) Kitco Metals, Inc., since 1977, has earned a reputation as one of the world's premier retailers of precious metals. They are a large dealer normally offering a complete line of metals products. This special .9999 purity Maple Leaf coin was sold by Kitco. Priced at a premium well above the market value of gold, this special item has commanded a notable numismatic value. Kitco and many other dealers are now SOLD OUT of these coins. Although Kitco is currently sold out of stock, the coin in this auction came directly from Kitco shortly before they were all sold. This auction is for our LAST ITEM IN STOCK of the Special Edition 2007 .9999 Maple Leaf Coin. This gives you the rare opportunity to own a coin which is extremely hard to acquire and comes from a trusted source providing you with a quality product in virtually flawless condition. Get yours while you still can.

In our failing economy today it is more prevalent than ever that the U.S. dollar is a weak investment. We in the United States now operate under a fiat currency. This means that we consider paper to be money because of government decree and not because it represents anything possessing intrinsic value, such as gold, silver, or some other precious metal. Our dollar bills are now bank notes, not silver or gold certificates, as they once were. The printing of this paper money is limited by nothing other than government or bankers' decree. The recent government bailout of failing banks/businesses is but one example. Therefore more and more money is printed and the value of each dollar is lessened, due to the increased amount of total dollars (inflation). One dollar bill today is worth so much less than it once was that it has the same purchasing power today that a few pennies did decades ago when we were still on the gold standard as opposed to fiat paper money. Bottom line: If you hold your wealth in a fiat currency like U.S. dollars, you are guaranteed to lose your wealth to inflation. Invest in something REAL. Something with intrinsic value. What's Wrong?
We invest a great deal of time, effort, and cost into creating some of the best photographic coin images on the internet. We strongly object when other lazy and dishonest dealers decide to use them without a by your leave or thanks, and pass them off as their own work, doing so in competition with us.
The chances are that we could and would have supplied the listed coin at a lower price than this eBay vendor.
Copyright theft is dishonest. We recommend you avoid doing business with dishonest dealers.
This particular eBay seller not only stole our images, he stole our website bandwidth by calling the images on his eBay listing from our site.

Substitution
When people do this (use our bandwidth), they leave themselves open to us substituting our images to leave a message to potential bidders, eBay, and the rest of the world.
As you can see from the reproduction of his listing on the right, there are two notices, each saying:

Yet another eBay Copyright Thief
This image is the property of
www.chards.co.uk
and will be reported to eBay when the auction ends.
Actually, we also bid on the item, and offered to accept the coin in payment of our fees for the use of our copyright images, and bandwidth. He declined.

Reported
On Tuesday 11th November 2008, we reported the listing to eBay.
Instead of using our normal VeRO "Notice of Claimed Infringement - Statutory Declaration" e-mail template, we took the recent suggestion by one of the eBay VeRO Team, to use the "Report This Item" link at the bottom of each listing.
We have used this as a small experiment to see what happens. Our guess is that eBay will ask for further information (we are not sure whether this is a delaying tactic or simply stupidity and incompetence), or ask us to complete a VeRO declaration.
Watch this space.
