Singapore Lion Gold Proof Coin Sets
Since 1990, Singapore has issued gold bullion coins with a lion design. These were intended to meet local demand for investment in physical gold rather than international demand, so are not well marketed outside of Singapore, indeed we have never previously been offered any of the bullion or proof versions.
We recently bought one single proof set, dated 2001, but have created this page in the expectation that we will obtain other dates in the future.
The issue limits and mintage figures are all quite low, both for the bullion and proof issues.

Description
In 1991, a privy mark of a goat was included in the design and this privy mark changes each year with the Chinese lunar almanac. A short-set version of the Singapore Lion Gold Proof Coin Set comprising all the coins except the 1 troy ounce coin, was introduced in 1998 in addition to the complete five-coin set. One feature to note is that the serialised number, which appears on the Certificate of Authenticity, is individually engraved on the 1/2 troy ounce coin. This feature was introduced in 1996
In 1992, and ingot was added to the set, with the theme of the designs tracing the historical and political development of Singapore. The 2001 ingot design, for example, features the flags of the five founding countries of ASEAN, a symbolic circular formation signifying the five countries, sealed in an eternal unity of strength, striving towards "peace, stability, progress, and prosperity" in the region. ASEAN was founded on 8th August 1967 with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration, comprising Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, and Indonesia.
The ingots are gold plated on sterling (0.925) silver.

Denominations
From 1990 to 1995, the one ounce coins were denominated at $100, but we notice that from 1996 onwards they are denominated at $50. In the earlier sets, all the denominations are pro-rata to the one ounce coin, but in the later period, the denominations are not in direct ration to their weight.
