samanthah5096 in eBay Copyright Theft
samanthah5096, of Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, United Kingdom, stole our 1986 gold proof gold two pound coin photograph, then omitted. on eBay, to inform potential buyers that the coin in the photograph was not the coin for sale, or that it was not a gold proof coin as in the photograph.

What's Wrong?
We invest a great deal of time, effort, and cost into creating some of the best photographic coin images on the internet. We strongly object when lazy and dishonest people decide to use them without a by your leave or thanks, doing so in competition with us.
Copyright theft is dishonest. We recommend you avoid doing business with dishonest dealers.
This particular eBay seller not only stole our images, she has almost certainly deluded herself that her coin is identical condition to the one in our photograph. It's possible she is ignorant of the fact that our photograph is of a valuable gold proof coin, whereas the one she presumably owns and is offering for sale, is extremely likely to be a nickel brass ordinary circulation version, probably not even in mint condition.
Having deluded herself, she then goes on to mislead possible buyers (after all, there is one mug born every minute).
ANyone with even a slight knowledge should be able to see that the coin in the photograph is a gold proof in perfect FDC condition, and as such is quite rare and valuable.
The gold proof edition has a mintage of 3,277 pieces.
The vendor, in her minimalist description, does describe the coin as rare, not once but twice, so it is unlikely that she is referring to the common base metal version, of which there were 8,212,184 minted. Having said that, the amount of exaggeration commonplace on eBay might indeed mean that a mintage of "only 8 million" constitutes rarity.
The vendor is not only cheating us by stealing our copyright images, she is fraudulently or ignorantly misleading and deceiving all potential buyers. Gaining pecuniary advantage by deception is the definition of fraud.

Price
The greedy and delusion seller is asking a starting price of £60 for this coin, so eBay will make about £2 in listing fees every time, she is stupid enough to list it.
We guess that any buyer was is stupid enough to bid £60 for it will expect it to be a gold proof, in which case, the price is too good to be true, and he should expect it to be the usual eBay rip-off. There is also a "Buy It Now" price (BIN seems strangely appropriate!) of £300. There may or may not also be a "reserve" on this auction.

We already have a page naming and shaming dealers using our images without permission. It's time we did the same for eBay, although if we include them all, this could be a very long page.
