George III Gold Guineas
Quarter guinea were issued for George III in 1762 only, with a laureate head, and a crowned shield on the reverse.
As you can see from our photographs, these sometimes show up creased. As they are quite thin coins, it must have been quite easy for people to absent-mindedly bend them, and although they can be straightened, this is never completely successful. And you thought that only banknotes constituted "folding money"!
Guineas - Brief History
As the history of the quarter guinea is closely linked to that of the guinea, we will not repeat it here.
