Copyright Images
Perhaps we should be flattered by the number of people including dealers who continually infringe our IP (Intellectual Property) rights by using our copyright images, but we do not find it amusing, and will take legal action against any copyright thieves.

Portal Oro.Com
Portal Oro.Com (Karim Alexander Preukschat) of Madrid, Spain were just one of the many coin dealers or websites worldwide who commit copyright theft by using our copyright images without our permission.
We are pleased to note that they have now started to add credits and links next to our images.
More to follow...

The Following Section May be Obsolete
Following co-operation by Portaloro, we expect to remove the following sections soon...

What's Wrong?

  • First, and most obvious. Portal Oro.Com and / or Karim Alexander Preukschat have taken and used our copyright image without our consent or prior knowledge. This is a clear breach of our Intellectual Property Rights. We call it image theft, and it is dishonest. It is also unprofessional.
If the company is an important well established bullion dealer, then surely it could afford to take its own photographs, buy them from an image library, or commission them from a professional photographer. Instead it appear to have chosen to steal our pictures. Apart from exposing them as cheapskates, it is unfair competition.

    Pseudo Expert Ad Farm?
Portal Oro has used a significant number of our high quality gold and silver bar photographs on its portaloro.com website, presumably to make it look professional and attractive, however this is dishonest, and Portal Oro is creating an illusion of expertise and professionalism using the fruits of our hard work.
Portal Oro appears to be one of the hundreds and pseudo-experts who are now making an income from writing expert advice sites. Their graphic content is usually pirated from other websites, and much of the written material on these sites is also, we guess, taken from sites like our own, written from experience by real experts and specialists, then re-hashed and re-served as original material. Most of it is actually crapware.
The income from these sites comes from selling advertising, often using Google sponsored links, and by directing buyers to eBay.
We strongly suspect that this gives most of these hack writers an incentive to be kind to eBay.
We believe eBay encourage this, and provide programming support to help anybody to do the same. We believe that this kind of viral marketing, and paid for placement on these websites is unethical. Site owners could and should provide a clear and readily findable page stating how their sites are financed. This might alert their more astute readers to the reason the site exists, and alert them to the very strong possibility of biased advice.

    Spanish Adfarm
Most of the adfarm sites we see are in the English language (or something approximating it), but obviously this one is in Spanish. We expect to find many more if we start looking.

We reproduce below their "Unidades de Medida para los Metales Preciosos Units of Measurement for Precious Metals" page, in Spanish, but we have also added an English translation (Google language tools)

    • 480 granos
    • 20 pennyweights
    • 8 dracmas troy
    • 0,0833333333333333 libras troy
    32 onzas = 1 kg
    400 onzas = 12 ½ kgb
    1000 onzas = 32 kg
    3200 onzas = 100 kg
    8000 onzas = 250 kg
    16000 onzas = 500 kg
    32000 onzas = 1000 kg

Otras medidas asiáticas (Tola, Bahts, Chi, Dons)

Units of Measurement for Precious Metals
The ounce is an ancient unit of mass, weight and value for money to which they have given different applications. The subdivision uncia was used by the Romans, who served as duodecimal fractions, ie, meaning "a twelfth part." In the monetary context, the uncia was the currency value at 1 / 12 of aces. For its part, the ounce of weight was 1 / 12 pound (note that the pound of 16 ounces is after the 12 oz.) The English word ounce (ounce) derives equally from uncia.
Currently only used three types of Oz:
One ounce (used only in jewelry, silverware and coins weighing precious metals) is the 1 / 12 of a pound troy and is equivalent to 31.1034768 grams (usually rounded to 31.1035), plus:
    • 480 grains
    • 20 pennyweights
    • 8 troy drams
    • 0.0833333333333333 pounds troy
    32 ounces = 1 kg
    400 ounces = 12 ½ kgb
    1000 ounces = 32 kg
    3200 ounces = 100 kg
    8000 ounces = 250 kg
    16,000 ounces = 500 kg
    32,000 ounces = 1000 kg
The troy ounce is called "Troy ounce" in Britain is abbreviated as "oz tr" and the U.S. "Oz t".
The ounce avoirdupois (common use) is the 1 / 16 of a pound avoirdupois, and is equal to 28.349523125 grams.
Another Anglo-Saxon unit in use, called fl oz (fluid ounce, in English, abbreviated fl. Oz), which is not mass but by volume.
    Seed (in English: grain)
The grain is the British unit of weight smaller and is used to indicate the weight of gold nuggets (Goldnuggets). The unit grain weight is not standardized and has been given different uses throughout history.
    To weigh a nugget of gold using these weights: 0.06479891 g (64.79891 milligrams) 1 gram = 15.432551.
The abbreviation for grain in English is "g" and not to be confused with gram "g".
    Karat
The carat is a term used in two ways.
Jewelry Karat: A unit of mass used primarily for weighing gems and pearls. In this sense, a historically represented carat 1 / 140 of an ounce, now represents a weight of 200 milligrams in the metric system.
Carat gold: means the law (purity) of the metals used in jewelry. In this sense, one carat of precious metal represents 1 / 24 part of the total mass of the alloy it is made (approximately 4.167%). For example, if a jewel is made of 18 carat gold, the alloy is made of 18/24 (or 3 / 4) of gold and has a purity of 75% whereas 24 carat piece is made of 24 / 24 parts of gold is pure gold. In the system of a carat troy ounce corresponds to 0.2053 grams. In 1875, he introduced the metric carat 1 carat = 0.2 grams as 5 carats = 1 gram.
The carat is also called metric carat and carat in English.
The term comes from the Greek word keration (? E ™ t that mean ???), carob, because the seeds of this fruit were used in ancient times for weighing gems and jewelry because of the supposed uniformity of weight between seeds. When the Arabs adopted this unit mass is called a distorted and this distorted quirat a carat to switch to Spanish.

    Tael
The Tael is a former trade measure has changed much over time. The Tael is sometimes also called liang. Unlike the Europeans who buy gold bullion in grams or the Americans who buy in troy ounces, the Chinese buy precious metals in taels (37.429 grams in China & Hong Kong and 37.5 in Taiwan). In the precious metals markets in Hong Kong are traded gold bullion units of 100 taels and a purity of 0.99.
Other measures in Asia (Tola, Baht, Chi, Dons)
In Asia, some units of measurement used more, but these are not relevant in the Western world.
In India, Pakistan, Singapore and the Middle East is used Tola (11.66 grams). The tola gold bars are marketed mainly in India, with weights of 5 and 10 tolas. The tola gold bars have no serial number.
In Thailand are popular gold bullion units Baht (15.4 grams). It is available in gold shops in Bangkok and major brands are Chin Hua Heng, Hua Seng Heng Lee and Heng Seng. The most popular bars are 10 Baht with a purity of 96.5%.
In Vietnam, the unit is used Chi (3.75 grams). Chis 10 (or 1 or 1 cay luong) weigh 37.5 grams. PAMP was one of the first refiners who made chi-denominated bullion for marketing in Vietnam.
In Korea uses drive Don (3.75 grams) and in Iran mesghal (4.6083 grams).
