2012 London Olympics Gold Coins
The Royal Mint released many coins to celebrate the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Some of the coins we managed to source at the time, whilst others we have bought on the secondary market. We will update this page as we buy the coins in.
Gold Proof £2 Coins
There is a Two Pound coin for 2008 to commemorate the Olympic Games Handover Ceremony.
This is the £2 coin commemorating the handover to Rio.
Gold Proof £5 Coins
2009-2011 Countdown to the London 2012 Gold Proof Five Pound Crowns
The Royal Mint released a £5 crown to countdown to the games. Each coin has a unique design displaying the number representing the amount of years to the start of London 2012, designed in harmony with an image of an Olympic sport.
This coin will incorporate the Olympic rings and the London 2012 logo. It also shows the logo appearing in full colour.
They were released in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
2012 Olympics Gold Proof Five Pound Crown
This is the official £5 to mark the Olympic games.
The coin features the London skyline and the River Thames within the central circle, the buildings depicted in the dkyline include Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, the Gherkin, St Paul’s Cathedral, the London Eye and the Tower of London, with London 2012 arching above. The outer ring of the design features images representing various Olympic sports.
Gold Proof Sets
This is a 9 coin set commemorating both the Olympic and Paralympic Games. They are also the only UK coins to feature the Olympic Rings.
