2010 Quarter Sovereigns - St. George & Dragon - Release Date November 2009!
A new denomination in the gold sovereign series. This is the second year the gold quarter sovereign has ever been issued, apart from two patterns produced in 1853.
Available in proof and uncirculated, both versions are available now.
After the special one-year-only design in 2005, the sovereign series reverted to the traditional reverse design of St. George slaying the dragon.
Buying from us you also get the benefit of buying from expert professional numismatists who have been in the business for over 40 years. While we appreciate the Royal Mint have existed for longer, we know more about sovereigns than they do!
Uncirculated Quarter Sovereigns
We are expecting our first delivery of the 2010 uncirculated quarter sovereigns in stock in January 2010.
Gold Proof Quarter Sovereigns
We received our first delivery of the 2010 proof quarter sovereigns in stock on Friday 27th November 2009.
The issue limit is 10,000.
The reverse dies for sovereigns, half sovereigns, double sovereigns and quintuple sovereigns were remastered and recut in 2007. See our 2007 sovereigns page of our Gold Sovereigns website for more information.
For 2010, we are told that the reverse dies will revert to dies produced from masters in the Royal Mint Museum, and possibly worked on by Benedetto Pistrucci himself.
The New Old Thing
It's not often that something so new is so old. We believe the reversion to original, or near original masters should provide better definition.
