2009 Gold Sovereigns - St. George & Dragon Design
We have the uncirculated "bullion" version in stock now. The proofs followed few weeks later.
This year's - 2009 - sovereigns and half sovereigns have the familiar and historic St. George and Dragon reverse, but with a difference - see images, although we still have stocks of the 2008 issue.
2009 Sovereigns - Actual Images
Bullion (Uncirculated) Version
We were expecting release of 2009 "bullion" sovereigns on Monday 5th January 2009, this being the first working day of the year for the Royal Mint. This ruled out a new year skiing holiday!
As the new year came as a surprise to the Royal Mint, the coins were not ready packed in time for collection. We did get them however on Friday 9th January 2009.
In 2008, they arrived into stock direct from the Royal Mint on 4th January 2008.
Sell-Out Prediction
We can confidently predict a complete sell-out of the 2009 bullion sovereigns about June 2009, although the Royal Mint's retail sales department "The Royal Mint Coin Club", will probably retain a quantity to support its direct sales operation. It is therefore quite likely that these will start to sell at an extra premium price. After our initial 5,000 pieces, we placed a second 5,000 piece order, and also upped our provisional order to 1,000 pieces per week. This would have meant that we alone would have taken about 50,000 of the 75,000 maximum mintage for the year. As it now stands, we are extremely unlikely to receive more than about 25,000 pieces, unless any other distributor fails to take up their allocation.
Issue Limits - Uncirculated Version
For 2005, the issue limit was only 75,000, the lowest bullion sovereign mintage for over 120 years. We expect the issue limit for 2009 to be similar.

We are happy to take advance orders for our next batch of newly minted 2009 gold sovereigns. We are due to have these in stock during November. As soon as we receive them in stock we usually aim to post them out the same day where possible.
