2008 Olympic 2 Coin £2 Set
In 2008 the United Kingdom Royal Mint is issuing two £2 coins to commemorate the centenary of the 1908 London Olympics (4th Modern Olympiad) and to celebrate the Olympic Games Handover Ceremony.
According to the Royal Mint:
London has earned an important place in the history of the Olympic Games and to celebrate the Royal Mint is issuing two £2 coins to commemorate both the 100th Anniversary of the 4th Olympiad London and the Olympic Games Handover Ceremony which took place on 24th August 2008. Both coins have been struck in limited numbers in precious metals. This handsome set brings the two companion coins together; both have been struck in 22 carat gold to Proof quality, both are dated 2008 and, being legal tender, both bear the portrait of Her Majesty The Queen on the obverse.
