2006 Queen's 80th Birthday Crown to Fund Queen Mother Statue

Gordon Brown Budget Announcement
According to "The Scotsman" Newspaper:-

Queen Mother's Monument to Be Funded by Special Coin
By Peter Archer, PA Court Correspondent

A £2 million public monument to the Queen Mother will be financed by proceeds from a commemorative coin to mark the Queen's 80th birthday next year, Gordon Brown announced in today's Budget speech.
Details of the proposal have yet to be finalised but, according to reports, the monument could be located at the existing statue of the Queen Mother's husband George VI on The Mall, overlooking Horse Guards Parade.
The George VI statue would be transformed into a joint monument with the depiction of the Queen Mother on the base of the statue and the addition of a new fountain.
The Chancellor told the Commons: Mr Deputy Speaker, it is right to honour the life and service of the Queen Mother with a permanent memorial to her.
After approval from Her Majesty the Queen, I can announce that the Treasury will allocate the proceeds from a new coin celebrating the Queen's 80th birthday to a memorial to the Queen Mother to be situated on The Mall.
It is understood that Mr Brown, in his role as Master of the Mint, discussed the memorial with the Queen yesterday afternoon when he outlined his Budget during a confidential royal audience at Buckingham Palace.
Talks had also been held with the Prince of Wales at Clarence House, his London residence.
The Queen Mother, who died three years ago at the age of 101, was arguably Britain's best-loved Royal and Mr Brown's announcement is likely to receive widespread support.
Mr Brown was the chairman of the committee which oversaw the £3.6 million Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain in London's Hyde Park, which has been beset by safety, drainage and other design problems.
