In 2000, Guernsey issued a gold proof £25 coin to commemorate the centenary of the Queen Mother.

The Queen Mother

Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother was born on 4th August, 1900. She was the second youngest of ten children.

On 26 April, 1923 she married Prince Albert, the Duke of York. On her way into the Abbey, Elizabeth laid her bouquet at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior.

Elizabeth and Albert had two children, Elizabeth and Margaret.

She died on 30th March, 2002 at the age of 101.

Design

The reverse of the coin features an image of the Queen Mother. The text reads "HM THE QUEEN MOTHER'S CENTENARY 2000".

The obverse shows the Ian Rank Broadley portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
