1970 200th Anniversary of Captain Cook set
Captain James Cook was a British Explorer who in three voyages sailed thousands of miles across largely uncharted areas of the globe. He mapped lands from New Zealand to Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean in greater detail and on a scale not previously achieved.
He was a captain in the Royal Navy and created detailed maps of Newfoundland and the first recorded circumnavigation of New Zealand.
Cook lost his life in a battle in Hawaii during his third exploratory voyage in the Pacific in 1779.
