The obverse of the coin shows a knight in armour. He is holding 7 arrows, each representing the different provinces of the Netherlands.
The reverse shows a tablet with the inscription 0 had a tablet inscribed: MO ORD PROVIN FOEDER BELG AD LEG IMP.
Utrecht was one of the seven provinces who signed the Union of Utrecht against Spain. This was a treaty which is now seen as the basis for both the Republic of the Netherlands and the Dutch Republic.
